Friends of Pier Park is reaching out to friends, neighbors and interested parties to gather suggestions of how best to re-purpose the park’s former tennis courts.
Why not just keep the tennis courts?
The surrounding trees that shade the courts contribute to moss growth and surface deterioration unsuitable for tennis. As a result, the cost of maintaining the courts is prohibitive because it is much higher than other courts/uses in other Portland Parks. However, this paved, level and fenced area is a valuable resource we’d like to preserve for future activities. While Portland Parks has not committed to any changes to date, having your input will help us be ready when the time comes.
How would you, the public, like to see this space potentially used?
Keep in mind the cost of implementation and ongoing maintenance must be kept relatively low. Also, consider the safety of the activity, and the possible impact it might have on the neighbors nearest to that location. What would be the court’s best use for the greatest number of diverse park goers if Portland Parks were to re-purpose the space?
Please tell us what you think. Respond by either replying directly to this post or send an email to us through our web site contact form.
