Surrounded by giant Douglas Firs, on a hot summer day Pier Park’s former tennis court is the coolest place to play in Portland.

Because of budget cutbacks, the tennis courts at Pier were officially decommissioned by Portland Parks and Recreation. So, Friends of Pier Park went to work to find an alternative use for this park amenity. By seeking out community input, we learned that there was a need Futsal and Pickleball courts. Working with the assistance of Portland Parks, FoPP added the lines and markings for two Futsal courts and eight Pickleball courts on what was formerly two tennis courts.
Bring your own nets, balls, and rackets
Portland Parks does not provide Pickleball or Futsal nets at Pier Park but does occasionally remove fir needles and leaves from the court. When you come to play bring your own nets and other gear.

Throwback … 2011
Friends of Pier Park has advocated for Pier Park since 2005 when we collected 700 signatures and turned them in to the Portland City Council with the request that Pier Pool stay open. The City of Portland had previously voted to close Pier Pool.

Our success encouraged continued advocacy. In 2011 we made an attempt to keep the tennis courts from being decommissioned. While we were unsuccessful at that time, we did turn out to re-stripe the courts in 2011 and continue to advocate for all aspects of Pier Park.
