No Ivy Day

No Ivy Day October 24th

October 11, 2020 By Mary Ann Aschenbrenner

Update: This event is now full with 20 registered. Thank you!

We hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy in these trying times. With COVID-19 limiting our options for socialization and travel, we’ve come to appreciate Pier Park more than ever as a place to immerse oneself in nature, and let go of some of that emotional stress these days might bring.

Part of the ivy pulling crew with one of the many piles of invasive plants.
This year we will be wearing face coverings and keeping a little more social distance, but expect the same fun and beautiful results from No Ivy Day 2020.

Normally Friends of Pier Park would have already held a couple of park clean up events, but for obvious reasons these have had been postponed until now.

On Saturday, October 24 from beginning at 9:00 AM and until noon, Friends is hosting a clean up at Pier Park as part of Portland Parks and Recreation 17th annual No Ivy Day, and we hope you can join us.

Registration for No Ivy Day

In order to meet COVID-19 requirements, participation is limited to 15, and pre-registration is recommended.  To learn more about No Ivy Day city-wide, to go No Ivy Day 2020. The Pier Park registration link is near the bottom of the page. Or, select Register for Pier Park No Ivy Day 2020. (This event is now full with 20 participants. Thank you!)

Measure 26-213

We also would like to encourage one and all to vote this November for The City of Portland Ballot Measure 26-213. The measure restores recreation programs, parks, nature, and water through a five-year levy. This year of COVID-19 has shown us more than ever how important Portland’s Parks are to the well-being of all our citizens. VOTE, VOTE, VOTE.

Thank you for all your Park support – looking forward to seeing you soon,

Friends of Pier Park

Thank You – No Ivy Day Volunteers

October 28, 2018 By Samantha McGath

Saturday October 27th, Friends of Pier Park hosted a volunteer opportunity in support of Portland Parks and Recreation’s No Ivy Day. Thank you for all of those who came out and volunteered to help beautify the park. Volunteers participated in several different activities including ivy removal, planting, spreading gravel, rebuilding stairs, and picking up limbs. Volunteers and community members also had access to coffee and treats provided by both Starbucks and Heavenly Donuts. When the event was over, Friends of Pier Park also provided a free lunch that consisted of hot dogs and chips.

Friends of Pier Park along with various community members are grateful for all the hard work these volunteers. It is through the efforts of volunteers that the park can maintain it’s presence in the community. Thank you again to all of our volunteers! We look forward to more events in the future.
